Changes for Interim Visa Holders will come in from 8 April 2025, meaning more Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applicants will be eligible for Interim Visas with work rights, allowing them to continue working in New Zealand while their visa applications are processed. Who is Eligible? Applicants must:✔️ Hold a work visa or a student visa that allows work during term time.✔️ Apply for an AEWV and receive an Interim Visa on or after 8 April 2025. Key Benefits of the New Interim Visa Rules An Interim Visa allows applicants to transition into their new job more quickly, as they can begin working in the role specified in their AEWV application, which is linked to their Accredited Employer’s Job Check. Additionally, any time spent working on an Interim Visa will count toward the required New Zealand work experience for those pursuing a Work to Residence Visa. For individuals applying for a second or subsequent AEWV, time spent on an Interim Visa will also contribute to the maximum stay period in New Zealand on an AEWV. However, this does not apply to Interim Visas granted before the applicant’s first AEWV. Important Notes for Employers & Applicants Interim Visas are usually granted automatically to eligible applicants. Visa conditions are not visible in VisaView – Employers should check the applicant’s visa letter to confirm work rights. If switching from another visa type, the AEWV maximum stay period will start from the approval date of the AEWV. This update ensures smoother job transitions, faster processing, and better clarity for employers and applicants. Make sure to check your visa conditions and employer requirements from 8 April 2025!
